George: The town was established in about 1810 as a woodcutter’s outpost which supplied timber to the Cape Colony. The town is situated at the lowest point of the Garden Route coastal plateau and rests at the foot of the Outeniqua mountains. George is the economic powerhouse of the Southern Cape.

  • The Montague Pass is a National Monument. It was completed in 1848 and took four years to to construct. This pass was replaced by The Outeniqua Pass, built with the help of World War two Italian prisoners is a faster and therefore the more popular pass joining George and Oudtshoorn and has several well positioned view points.

Wilderness: The Wilderness is between Kaaimans River and Goukama Nature Reserve. The Wilderness is world famous for its beaches that go on seemingly forever. The Wilderness is surrounded by Rivers and Lakes and is an ideal location for all those water sport enthusiasts. The National Park stretches over 2 500ha with five rivers, lakes and two estuaries with an amazing 18km of coastline.

Knysna LoerieKnysna: The name Knysna is a Khoi word but the meaning seems to be unclear. There are however a few theories " place of wood", "Fern leaves", or "Straight down" (in reference to the heads). Situated on banks of the estuary , Knysnaoffers indigenous forests,historical buildings and a beautiful beach located at Buffalo Bay. Knysna is best known for its indigenous timbers and timber products. The town has an abundance of flea-markets and bistro's and a popular waterfront.

  • The Knysna Forest, which is still evident in many places within the town as well as the surrounding areas. It is the largest indigenous forest in South Africa. The fauna and flora is abundant and boasts indigenous species, including yellow-wood, stinkwood,ironwood, blackwood, Cape chestnut and white alders. The forest is dense in places and almost impossible to penetrate. The forest houses the Knysna Elephant and until recently there was only one Elephant cow left.
